Sydney Brewery Surry Hills reopens with fresh new look

Sydney Brewery has revamped its Surry Hills site, reopening the microbrewery, bar and bistro on Friday 2 October with a contemporary new design and enhanced offering.

Eight years since the venue launched, the refurbishment aims to capture the essence of Surry Hills’ inner-city culture and industrial warehouses, with exposed brick and concrete walls and street art across the walls. Retaining the character that has defined the venue over the years while also modernising the space, upgrades include a new pool table, large new screen for live sports and updated furnishings.

Brittany Peacock-Smith, General Manager of Rydges Sydney Central, to which Sydney Brewery Surry Hills is attached, says: “The upgrade reflects everything we love about this neighbourhood: its energy, its character and its people. We’ve put a lot of care into creating a space that feels fresh while staying true to what locals and our regular guests already love about it. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

Additional upgrades extend to the food and beverage offering, including the release of Hoppy Golden Pale Ale – brewed by Danielle McDonald and Nate Holgersson especially for the venue relaunch. Joining an extensive list of Sydney Brewery beers and ciders available on tap and in the bottle, Hoppy Golden Pale Ale was brewed with Taiheke and Simcoe hops, delivering vibrant New Zealand hop character supported by fresh lime, passionfruit and citrus flavours and subtle biscuit malt notes.

The food menu has also been given an overhaul, built around refined Australian pub classics and share-style plates such as Sydney rock oysters with cider mignonette and steak frites with chimichurri.

Ewan MacKechnie, Bar Manager at Sydney Brewery Surry Hills, says: “Surry Hills has such a strong personality and sense of community, and that’s something we really wanted to embrace with the brewery.

“The refurbishment has given the venue a new feel, but at its core it’s still the brewery our regulars know. We want it to be somewhere people can drop in for a beer after work, share a meal with friends, watch the game. or stop by before or after attending a game at the SCG or Allianz Stadium.”

Sydney Brewery Surry Hills will officially reopen on Friday 2 October from 4pm, with the first 100 guests receiving a complementary smash burger with any Sydney Brewery purchase. Happy hour will take place from 4-6pm as well as $1 wings and a live DJ.
