The initiative, promoted by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Poma de Girona, seeks to promote apple consumption among children.

The companies of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Poma de Girona have created the 'Eat Apples' campaign to encourage apple consumption among the youngest members of the family.
Promoted by Fructícola Empordà, Giropoma and Girona Fruits – three companies that bring together the main apple producers in the Girona regions –, the initiative is aimed at boys and girls between 8 and 12 years old with the aim of raising awareness among both children and families of the importance of incorporating fruit – and, especially, apples – into a healthy and balanced diet.
This is an educational, visual and very experience-focused proposal, which starts from the figure of the apple eaters. Based on this premise, children become these apple predators and learn their hunting techniques, their eating habits and the characteristics of their prey: apples.
The proposal helps them discover the four apple varieties under the IGP Poma de Girona seal (Gala, Golden, Granny Smith and Red Delicious) and learn to distinguish them by color, texture, taste and even sound.
In order to reinforce the experiential aspect of the project and facilitate work in the classroom, the promoting companies will provide apples to the participating centers so that students can enter the universe of apple eaters with real, local produce.
Along the same lines, through the campaign's website, materials, ideas and content will be provided to develop in the classroom, as resources so that families can work on healthy eating from home.
