Five Star Handmade Dim Sum: Old-School Eatery With Over 40 Items From $2.80

If you love dim sum as much as we do, you have to check out Five Star Hong Kong Style Handmade Dim Sum. Hidden in the Aljunied industrial estate, this under-the-radar eatery offers over 40 types of old-school dim sum, priced from just $2.80.

Five Star has three outlets across the island, though their Aljunied location is their main flagship restaurant. Based on an updated menu, there are a whopping 49 items to choose from, including baked HK Egg Tarts ($3.70+) and Po Lo Bun ($2.80+), served from a display warmer.

Do note that this outlet is self-service (there’s no service charge). All you need to do is place your order, make payment and you’ll be directed to a free-seating, air-conditioned dining hall. Their dim sum is said to be handmade fresh at a central kitchen, before they’re delivered to each eatery.

These include the classic Steamed Prawn Siew Mai ($5+), Home Style Fried Dumplings ($5+), Xiao Long Bao ($4.50+) and more. Five Star also has a decent selection of freshly steamed bao, including the BBQ Char Siew Bun ($4+), HK Salted Egg Custard Bun ($4+), and Steamed Sesame Paste Bun ($4+).
