This 86-Year-Old JB Bakery Has Famous Curry Puffs, Wood-Fired Bread And More
Salahuddin Bakery has old-school bakes in Johor Bahru
Located a 15-minute drive from the JB Customs, Salahuddin Bakery is a long-standing institution in Johor Bahru, having been around for 86 years and counting.
You might recall the Indian-Muslim bakery from its former home on Jalan Dhoby, but as CNA reported, rising rents forced its move to this new location. Patrons often return for their curry puffs, which, as you can see in the picture above, are known to be incredibly flaky and sizeable.
Choose from various fillings, such as Karipap Chicken (RM2.50), Karipap Mutton (RM2), Paripap Potato (RM2) and more. Salahuddin Bakery is also renowned for its wood-fired bread, made using an old Pakistani recipe that gives each loaf its soft, fluffy texture and distinctive aroma.
This process also gives their bread a slightly smoky fragrance—some say that makes it good enough to eat on its own! The humble Butter Cake (RM6) also has its share of fans. It is said to be a proper old-school bake, dense and golden, with an eggy crumb and that nostalgic scent of caramelised butter.
If you’re looking to purchase some bread to bring back to your family in Singapore, Salahuddin Bakery is a solid pick. This is especially true if they’re into old school bakes—it’s hard to beat those smoky loaves that are offered here!
