Where to Celebrate Texas Independence Day in Austin With Drinks and Food

Texas Independence Day celebrates when the Lone Star region became an independent country from Mexico on March 2, 1836, as the Republic of Texas (the area became an official American state in December 1845).

Everything below is listed in alphabetical order and takes place on Saturday, March 2, unless otherwise noted.

Independence Brewing Co. 3913 Todd Lane, Suite 607, McKinney The Austin brewery is throwing its Brews & Boots event for the day. On deck will be its Native Light beers, as well as live music, a Western-themed fashion show and costume contest, a lasso station, and a raffle benefitting Austin Parks Foundation. When: 3 to 7 p.m. How to Attend: Free.

The White Horse 500 Comal Street, East Austin The honky-tonk is hosting a big party with two-step lessons, live music, free Texas tattoos, and drinks. When: 4 p.m. into the late night, with the last band starting at midnight. How to Attend: Free to attend during the daytime, then it’’s $10 for people 21 years old and above after 7:30 p.m.
