A long workday, hungry kids, and a never-ending to-do list – that practically screams for a quick and easy dinner. These stir-fries are just the thing, as they generally require little effort and hardly any washing up. Yet, in the end, the frying pan is brimming with delicious pasta, crispy potatoes, or creamy rice, a generous portion of nutrients, and of course, a sauce to die for. Here you'll find all the stir-fries at a glance.

What makes pan-fried dishes so appealing:

  • Quick preparation: Pan-fried dishes are generally quick to prepare, as the direct heat in the pan is one of the faster cooking methods.
  • Versatility: You can prepare almost any food in a pan – be it meat, fish, vegetables, pasta, potatoes or rice.
  • Easy cleaning: Before I had a dishwasher, I used to carefully consider which dishes required which amount of washing up. These days that's no longer a big problem, but the fact that the pan is easy to clean is still a big plus.
  • Nutrient retention: Because stir-fries are usually cooked quickly, the ingredients often retain more nutrients compared to longer cooking methods. Furthermore, little oil is needed for preparation, thus reducing the fat content of the meal.
  • Intense flavor: Frying in a pan develops an intense aroma and roasted flavors that give the dishes the finishing touch.

Which pan is best for which pan-fried dish?

  • Cast iron pans: Cast iron pans get very hot. This allows food to be seared quickly, but it's also difficult to cool down afterwards. Cast iron pans are ideal for cooking individual pieces of meat like steak.
  • Coated pans: Pans with Teflon or ceramic coatings allow for low-fat cooking. Anything that doesn't require high heat is best suited to a coated pan. Furthermore, they respond quickly to temperature changes, making them ideal for preparing pancakes and scrambled eggs.
  • Copper pans: Copper pans heat up very quickly and can then be precisely regulated. I like to use my copper pan for rice and noodle dishes, like my Caribbean rice dish.

Vegetarian stir-fries

Zucchini stir-fry. Occasionally going without meat is important not only for children but also for adults, and it's a delicious change.
