Summer salad
When it gets warm again, I'm really looking forward to it.
Summer salads. Especially on hot days, when the mere thought of a heavy meal makes me sweat, I like to browse through my collection and pick out something refreshing. Then summer salads sometimes even end up on our menu as a main course. Because with crispy gnocchi or fried Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli), they become truly satisfying.
In this collection, I'll show you my favorite summer salads for the whole family, which even kids will love. I use seasonal ingredients like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and fresh herbs. Variations with fruit, such as melon, strawberries, or peaches, are also especially popular. I like to get the ingredients from my own home fruit and vegetable garden. If you have a greenhouse or raised beds in your garden, you can do that too. Otherwise, you can find fresh, locally grown ingredients at farmers' markets or your local supermarket.
With a good dressing, like mine.
Honey-mustard dressing or my quick yogurt dressing give these summer salads the perfect finishing touch. They're practically a must-have for me at barbecues. But they're also a hit for meal prep and cold dishes.
- Salad with goat cheese
Filling salads as a main course
- Greek-style orzo salad with feta and olives.
Summer salads to go with grilled meat
Waldorf salad with mayonnaise. But when it gets hot outside, I also like something fresher. Then I prepare a mixed salad with a light dressing, quick-cooking cucumbers, or a tomato salad with onions.
Salads to go with grilled fish
Asparagus and strawberry salad with grilled fish. For me, the perfect summer meal!
Overview of salad dressings:
The dressing is also important in a summer salad. It adds a lot of flavor. There are creamy or watery salad dressings. Here's a brief overview:
- Vinegar and oil dressings
- Senf-Dressings
- Yogurt dressings
- Sahne-Dressings
- Mayonnaise-Dressings
- Herb dressings
Toppings for even more crunch:
But the salad bowl is far from the only option. Nuts, seeds and kernels, croutons, or even roasted bacon, chickpeas or popcorn add zest to your grilled salad!
