The biggest barbecue mistake that almost every Slovenian makes

On summer days, when we want to spend more time outside and less time in the kitchen, practical solutions become even more welcome. Pivka chicken skewers and Pivka chicken čevapčiči are created for just such moments: for relaxed picnics, quick lunches on the terrace or evening gatherings with friends.

A good barbecue today means relaxation above all.

For many years, it was believed that a proper barbecue had to be almost a project in itself. The meat had to be marinated overnight, special sauces had to be prepared and every step had to be meticulously planned. But today, more and more people understand it differently. It's not how much time we spent preparing it, but how good we feel at the table.

Even prepared meat needs the right approach

While ready-made products make cooking much easier, that doesn't mean you can throw them on a hot grill without thinking. When marinating meat, it's important to grill it with sensitivity. Marinades often contain spices and sugars that can quickly overcook, so the best results are achieved over medium heat.

It is also important not to grill meat straight from the fridge. Leaving it at room temperature for a few minutes will help it cook more evenly and stay juicy. Pivka chicken skewers are best when they have a nice golden crust and the inside remains soft and juicy. The same goes for chicken čevapčiče: a little patience when grilling makes a big difference in the final taste.

Small additions create the feel of a "restaurant" plate

Sometimes, you don't need a fancy recipe to make a great meal, just a few simple additions. Fresh herbs can instantly make even the simplest barbecue more flavorful and fresh. Chopped parsley, chives, or basil just before serving create a light, airy feeling that we all love in the summer.

The same goes for lemon, which is often the most underrated ingredient in summer barbecues. A few drops of lemon juice over grilled chicken skewers enhances the flavor of the meat and nicely balances the marinade. Add a quick yogurt sauce with a bit of garlic or mint for a combination that feels thoughtful, even though it's made in minutes.

Quick recipe: Mediterranean skewers with a refreshing salad.

Pivka chicken skewers are a great choice for days when you want something light but still substantial. Since they're ready to bake, you can focus on the side dishes and table setting. In less than half an hour, you can prepare a meal that looks fresh, summery, and very tempting.

For preparation we need:

- cherry tomatoes

- cucumber

- feta sir

- red onion

- olive oil

- lemon

- fresh basil

Grill the skewers until golden brown. Meanwhile, prepare a salad of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, add feta cheese, and season with olive oil, lemon juice, and basil. The end result is a light summer dish that's perfect for a patio lunch or a casual dinner with friends.

Cevapčiči, which can be served a little differently

Chicken čevapčiči are a classic that almost everyone loves, but they can be presented in a slightly more modern way without much extra work. Instead of the classic bread serving, they can be included in mini pita sandwiches or tortillas, where each guest can put together their own combination.

Pivka Chicken Cevapčiči goes perfectly with a yogurt sauce, crispy arugula and pickled red onions. This type of serving is great for casual get-togethers, as it is practical, tasty and visually appealing. It also allows the host to spend less time grilling and more time at the table with company, which is the essence of summer evenings.

The best summer meals are often the simplest

Summer is not the time for perfectionism. No one will remember how many hours the meat was marinated or how many different spices we used. People will remember the good atmosphere, the laughter, the long evening and the feeling of relaxation created by simple but delicious meals.
