Grated potatoes (Grumbeerekiechle)

Grate 500g of potatoes and squeeze them firmly to remove all the excess water. Mix them with 1 beaten egg, 1 finely chopped onion, parsley, salt, and pepper. Form into patties using a spoon and brown them on both sides in a pan with hot oil.

Ingredients · Servings 5 people
  • 500g potato
  • 1 onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 glass of oil
  • 1 chopped parsley (optional)
  • cell
  • pepper
Method · 10 min
  1. Grate the washed and peeled potatoes on a not-too-fine grater. Drain them and then press them firmly.
  2. Mix the grated potatoes with the beaten egg, the parsley and the onion which have been finely chopped beforehand, then season and mix everything together.
  3. Form patties using a heaping tablespoon, slide them into a pan containing hot oil and flatten them with the spoon. Brown them on both sides. Enjoy.
  4. - Serve your grated potatoes with some meat... - Why not add a little grated nutmeg to your dish? - I didn't put parsley in my recipe because my husband simply isn't a fan. - I'd love to try a version with pieces of bacon, or ham, or even cheese! What about you?

Why is it necessary to press grated potatoes well?

Pressing the potatoes firmly removes all the moisture. This step prevents the mixture from becoming too runny and allows the patties to hold their shape during cooking, becoming crispy and golden.
