Hot Dog with Cheese Corn

A corn dog is a delicious sausage battered in cornmeal and deep-fried. Unlike hot dogs, which are served in buns, corn dogs are served on wooden skewers, making them easier to eat on the go.

Ingredients · Servings 4
  • Stolichnaya bun
  • Milk sausages
  • Parsley
  • Olive oil
  • Canned sweet corn
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sriracha sauce
  • Pickled cucumbers
  • Onions
  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Ground black pepper
  • Salt
Method · 20 min
  1. Make caramelized onions. Slice the onion into quarters. Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. When it begins to sizzle, add the onion, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for about 4-5 minutes.
  2. Add brown sugar to the pan and continue to fry the onions until golden brown (another 4–5 minutes). Remove the onions from the pan to a plate lined with paper towels and set aside.
  3. Meanwhile, mix the mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce for the sauce. Slit the hot dog buns lengthwise, but not all the way through, open them like books, and spread the mixture on them. Finely chop the pickles and add to the remaining sauce. Finely chop the parsley leaves and set aside.
  4. Make shallow cross-shaped cuts on both sides of the sausages. Heat olive oil in a frying pan and fry the sausages until golden brown. You can also grill the sausages.
  5. While the sausages are frying, grate the mozzarella cheese coarsely and transfer it to a microwave-safe bowl. Add the corn and mayonnaise and stir. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, poke a few holes in it with a toothpick, and microwave for 1–1.5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  6. Assemble the hot dogs. Place a hot dog in each greased bun, spread the pickle sauce on top, then top with the melted cheese corn. Top the hot dogs with caramelized onions and chopped parsley. Serve.

Corn dogs without corn flour—it sounds like a contradiction in terms, but this is precisely the case where a deviation from the norm is warranted. Corn flour, essential to the classic recipe, creates a crispy "coat." Our version, using regular wheat flour, will appeal to those who enjoy a tender, soft texture, truly fluffy, like the best fried donuts. And yes, they can still be called corn dogs with a clear conscience: after all, the main principle—dipping a hot dog on a stick in batter and instantly deep-frying—is preserved. Regular hot dogs in batter are prepared completely differently. Nothing in common!
