An exclusive 16th-century Asturian hotel joins the international elite of independent luxury, combining history, nature and exceptional hospitality.
The CoolRooms Palacio de Luces Hotel, a true architectural gem from the 16th century and the only establishment in Asturias to have been awarded a Michelin Key, has become the newest member of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels of the World community. One of the most sought-after.
Following this appointment, it becomes one of only three hotels in northern Spain to be part of the group's select group representing the most exquisite independent luxury hotels worldwide. This was announced by the hotel's director in May 2025.
A luxury with Asturian roots
It is located in a restored 16th-century palace, just two kilometers from Lastres, a village in the municipality of Colunga. The Palacio de Luces sits between the Cantabrian Sea and the Sueve mountain range, surrounded by 13,000 square meters of gardens that offer an unparalleled natural setting.
This distinction reinforces our commitment to a different kind of luxury, based on local character, excellence in hospitality, sustainability, and a genuine connection with each guest.
The best-kept secret
The renovation of CoolRooms was carried out by Proyecto Singular, respecting the architectural evolution of the original building. The result is a destination filled with light, nature, and history in every corner.
With 44 rooms and suites, each offering stunning views, the hotel provides a unique experience that connects guests with their surroundings. The newly redesigned CoolSuites are a highlight, featuring lighter colors and natural wood furnishings in an Indian style.
Palacio de Luces reflects a clear idea: to elevate the art of living to its highest expression, integrating into the culture of each place and seeking the uniqueness of accommodation in the commitment to protect and publicize the richness of the tradition in which they are framed and preserve local and environmental heritage.
Asturian gastronomy with touches of influence
In addition to the aesthetic luxuries and immersive experience offered by this hotel, Palacio de Luces boasts the Tella gourmet restaurant. Chef Pachi Ruiz offers guests a cuisine that blends Asturian roots with American influences, emphasizing the use of local products. The menu features fish, seafood, and meats from the region, as well as Asturian cheeses and Hazas anchovies.
My cuisine responds to the market, to local organic produce, to what Colunga offers, which includes almost everything, from legumes to fish, from seafood to game and from sausages to poultry.
The restaurant also boasts striking aesthetic touches, such as a glass wall offering breathtaking views of the Asturian landscape and the Sueve mountain range. This serves as inspiration for Tella's dishes and tasting menus, which combine flavors, textures, and techniques. In addition, the hotel features a more casual restaurant, the La Palmera gastrobar, and a wellness area.
The CoolRooms hotel boasts numerous awards that highlight its status as a benchmark in the hospitality industry.
