The Best Dishes Eater Dallas Ate in July

Summer is prime seafood season, and this red snapper and shrimp ceviche is at the top of the heap. It’s served with cucumbers, jalapeño, and red onion in a passionfruit vinaigrette. The acid gives it a nice tang, while the seafood is light, refreshing, and fresh. I paired it with a glass of rosé.

My trip to Fort Worth for research on styacations took me for lunch at this restaurant in Bowie House. So many dishes won my approval, but this steak and fries dish was one of the best cuts of steak I’ve had in a while. I kept making that “mmmmm” face as I ate it and remarking with every bite how nice the cook was. After, I had a piece of mud pie embedded with pecans and topped with house-made whipped cream that was almost too sinful to exist.

These two powerhouses of Neopolitan-style pizza teamed up for the first monthly “Quattro Mani series. For July, it featured a pie by Partenope owner Dino Santonicola. It was an incredible, beautifully balanced pizza with eggplant parmigiana, smoked provola, spicy sausage, parmigiano reggiano DOP, and fresh basil. In August, it will feature 400 Gradi.

This cocktail is called the Endless Pit of Desire, and wow, is that an apt name. I popped in at the end of a bummer day that called for a drink, and though I don’t typically order bourbon in the summer months, this one was so light and summery. It also has fresh peaches, lemon, Montenegro, and peach bitters. It will cure what ails you and possibly create an endless pit of desire for a second one.

How do I love the simple spinichi pie at Pizzana, let me count the ways. This order is so light and perfect for the dog days of summer, with its house-made basil pesto and fior di latte with perfectly placed drops of parmigiano crema. It is savory, a great source of fiber with all the cheese and carby goodness, and earthy.
