Where to find great fish and chips in Singapore, from specialty joints to Irish pubs
What is it? Sister restaurant of the popular Tanjong Pagar gastropub Lad & Dad, located just off the main buzz of Orchard Road.
Why we love it: The breezy alfresco setting surrounded by greenery is a welcome respite from the busyness of Orchard. Come expecting freshly fried chunks of Norwegian haddock (from $19.90), served with thick-cut chips and malt vinegar, the true English way. The beer batter is so crisp that you can hear your knife scrape satisfyingly over the surface. Cut through the golden-brown crust to reach the tender, fleshy middle, and pair it with house-made condiments like salsa with gherkins and lemon, or buttery mushy peas – another UK staple.
Time Out tip: Lad & Co does an excellent rendition of Scotch eggs ($11.90), so make sure to order that, as well as an ice-cold pint to complete the meal.
