How to make churros with chocolate without a churro maker (VIDEO)

Classic recipe for homemade churros with chocolate sauce; a perfect combination for both breakfast and afternoon tea.

Crispy yet soft and full of flavor, with an extra touch of sugar on top, churros are one of the most beloved sweets in Spain, where they are enjoyed both for breakfast and as an afternoon snack, despite being veritable calorie bombs. Although many attribute them to Spain, the truth is that there is no reliable information about the origin of churros.

Churros have gained renown far beyond Spain's borders and can be easily found in various parts of the world. If you ever thought making churros at home without a churro maker was impossible, we assure you it's feasible and the result is just as good as those made with one.

Preparing this homemade churro recipe is surprisingly simple; you just need a piping bag with a star nozzle to shape the homemade churros.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Place the salt, sugar, butter and a splash of vanilla essence.
  • When the water boils, add the flour all at once and stir until you get a homogeneous dough, remove from heat and let it cool down.
  • Add the beaten eggs gradually.
  • Once a homogeneous mass is obtained, let it cool.
  • Place the dough in a piping bag with a star nozzle. Shape the churros.
  • Fry in plenty of oil, turning the churros so that they brown evenly.
  • Once they are evenly golden brown, remove and let cool slightly on absorbent paper.
  • Roll in white sugar.
  • For the chocolate, bring the heavy cream to a boil.
  • Remove from heat once it starts to boil.
  • Pour it over the chocolate tablets.
  • Emulsify using a mixer or a whisk.
