Weleda's Skin Food turns 100
Weleda's Skin Food cream is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The product was introduced in 1926 under the name Huidcrème and is still sold as a care product for dry and rough skin. According to the company, the cream has become a staple in households worldwide.
The formula consists of 100% natural ingredients, including extract of tricolor violet, chamomile, calendula, and rosemary. Weleda emphasizes that the basic formula has hardly changed since its introduction. The name was changed to Skin Food in the 1980s.
Natural cosmetics
Weleda states that the company committed early on to natural cosmetics with ingredients of organic origin and a focus on skincare without synthetic additives.
Weleda links the ingredients to various skin functions. For example, violet is said to have hydrating properties, chamomile a soothing effect, and calendula and rosemary are used to support dry skin.
Other applications
Skin Food was originally developed as a cream for dry skin, but is now also used in other applications, such as a face mask or as a base under make-up. The scent is described as having notes of orange, lavender, and benzoin resin.
The Skin Food line has since been expanded to include Skin Food Light and variants for face, lips, and body, among others.
