Victorian business wins Australian Gelato Cup

May Quah and Apple Robles of Oh My Gelato! won the title with their bespoke flavour, “The Melbourne Marvel”, a combination of Australian pistachio, espresso variegato and dark chocolate coated honeycomb.

Oh My Gelato! was one of six finalists competing in the Australian Association of Pastry, Gelato and Chocolate Australian Gelato Cup. The finalists presented their gelato and shared their stories at Fine Food Australia, held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The winning team will now prepare to head to Italy in November, representing Australia at Sherbeth International Artisan Gelato Festival, with the goal of being named the best in the world.

The People’s Choice award went to Paola Guarin Sanchez of Merry Pops, NSW, for “El Amor de Mi Visa”, featuring macadamia gelato, dulce de leche, Colombian mango and macadamia crunch.

Andrea Calabrese of La Viennese, SA, won the Critic’s Choice award with “Scent of Home”, a savoury inspired avocado and Tahitian lime gelato with extra virgin olive oil ripple.

The Australian Gelato Cup was held as part of Fine Food Australia, a foodservice and hospitality industry event featuring more than 900 exhibitors from local producers to international brands.
