Gastronomic competition rescues flavors and stories of the traditional Jorge Inostroza neighborhood

With preparations steeped in tradition, family memories and local identity, the gastronomic competition “Flavors with History: Recipes from the Jorge Inostroza Neighborhood” was held, an initiative promoted by the Quiero Mi Barrio Program, the Municipality of Iquique, INACAP through its Gastronomy career and Iquique International Terminal (ITI).

The event showcased iconic recipes such as arrollado de mono (a rolled meat dish), picarones (a type of fritter), homemade cakes, beans, and pantrucas (a type of pasta) stuffed with llama meat, among other dishes that form part of the culinary heritage of this traditional part of the city. The day highlighted the value of neighborhood identity and the collaborative work between the community, the public and private sectors, and academia.

For his part, ITI's General Manager, Rodrigo Pommiez, emphasized that “collaborative work is fundamental to generating initiatives with a positive impact on the community. As a company, we will continue to promote partnerships that contribute to sustainable development and the strengthening of local identity.”

First place was awarded to senior citizen Jorge Soto, a member of the Eugenio Soto Florido Club, thanks to his preparation of picante de locos, which captivated the jury for its flavor and territorial roots.
