Private Notes

@David It's the opposite in fact. The lightness of the High Life allows the Aperol (or Campari, which I prefer) to come forward with only a hint of hoppiness.

I've tried this with better beers, and it's a waste of both beer and amaro. Plus the clear bottle is an important part of the presentation.

I hadn't heard this name, I know it as a Redneck Riviera. Also known as a Low Life, depending on where in Baltimore you get one.

We served this at our 4th of July party a few years ago, and it was a huge hit. It has since become the beverage of choice at the party!

Perfect for a hot afternoon with a grilled brat by the pool with friends! I read about this and sent the recipe to my best friend who loves Aperol and never heard back 🤨. Then I saw 2 couples sitting on a bench overlooking the Rhine in Cologne having a beer break but the ladies were having some mixed soft drinks.

Made me think of this cocktail and when I mentioned it the women lit up and told me they loved it when a beer company called Veltins had bottled it years ago and how much they had loved it. Okay.

Next move. Got a cold beer, added Aperol and loved it from the first sip. Thanks NYTimes cooking for reviving this.

No Miller High Life in the beer fridge. Fortunately there was Peroni.

Match made in heaven. I added an ounce and a half of Aperol though! I am not even a fan of beer but found this to be delicious!
