Homemade pastries and cafes in Bregenz

distance

Behind a historic villa on Reichsstraße, the Wunderkind bakery bakes its own pastries – and serves them in rooms that look like a lovingly curated collection: old wooden floors, eclectic furniture, and a rocking chair. The former garden is now an idyllic outdoor seating area. A charming haven for indulging in sweets.

Third-wave coffee as it should be: At BAHI, the beans come fresh from a roastery, sometimes as a dark house blend, sometimes as a lighter single origin. They also offer homemade organic cakes, including vegan and gluten-free options, and a rye bread breakfast that truly lives up to its name.

From a mobile coffee cart to a permanent fixture: Manuel Vetter and Claudio Errico have created one of the most vibrant meeting places in Bregenz's city center with La Café in the old Kloser bakery on Kaiserstrasse. They roast their own coffee, bake pastries, and serve breakfast until well past noon. They also have a second location in Bludenz.

Small is the name of the game here: a coffee shop, simply furnished, with cozy corners. The bagels are boiled, then baked – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. With cream cheese and salmon or chicken curry spread. To go? Absolutely.

A tiny house with a big personality, right in the heart of Bregenz's pedestrian zone, behind an original, preserved cherrywood facade: homemade pralines and truffles made according to recipes perfected over years, plus the Grillage – a layered cake with chocolate cream and hazelnut brittle. And an Italian espresso. Sweet precision!

Located in the heart of the Vorarlberg Museum, the museum café offers a sophisticated setting for coffee, fine pastries, and light refreshments. Large windows overlook the Kornmarktplatz (Grain Market Square), and outdoor seating is available in the summer.

Art on the walls, a cappuccino on the table: CUENSTLER on Kornmarktstraße in Bregenz seamlessly blends paintings and coffee. From the outdoor seating, the view sweeps across the city's cultural mile – a place that truly integrates café and culture.

Cakes, strudels, and pastries are baked fresh daily in their own bakery – along with ice cream sundaes that have been enjoyed by three generations on the shores of Lake Constance in Bregenz. The Eispavillon Am See (Ice Cream Pavilion by the Lake), a round building with extended awnings and a semicircular outdoor seating area, is a classic stop on the lakeside promenade: a view of Lake Constance and a playground for children included.
