The Jumilla PDO Wine Fair in Hellín celebrates its 10th edition

13 wineries from the PDO will participate in the event, which will take place on the second Saturday of the Fair, October 3, from 12:00 to 15:00.

The tenth edition of the Jumilla PDO Wine Fair has been presented in Hellín, by Carolina Martínez Origone, general secretary of the Jumilla PDO Regulatory Council, and Manuel Serena, mayor of Hellín, who were accompanied by the delegate of Agriculture of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, Ramón Sáez, and the councilor of Fair and Festivals and Agriculture of the Hellín City Council, Miriam García.

All participants emphasized the importance of this multi-regional Designation of Origin, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and its 10th edition in Hellín. This is thanks to the shared commitment of Hellín's winegrowers and the Regulatory Council, who were dedicated to developing the Jumilla PDO wine culture in the municipality with the largest population within this Designation of Origin. Today, the public of Hellín and visitors alike are once again invited to this well-established event to taste wines from 13 wineries. This year, the tastings will be held in the southwest section of Vicente Garaulet Sequero Park, accessible via Obispo Luis Amigó Street.

The Jumilla PDO Wine Fair in Hellín will begin on Saturday, October 3rd at 12 noon, and the wineries will offer their wines until 3:00 PM, when the event will end. Entry to the fair is free, and vouchers will be available for purchase for €10, which can be exchanged for a Jumilla PDO wine glass and used to sample the different wines offered by Casa de la Ermita, Bodegas Ontalba, Bodegas Pío del Ramo, Bodegas San Dionisio, Bodegas Xenysel, Ramón Izquierdo, Bodegas Viña Elena, Bodegas BSI, Bodegas Bleda, Bodegas Silvano García, Bodegas Fermín Gilar, DobledePerez Microbodega, and Bodegas Juan Gil.

The poster for the fair shows two people from Hellín tasting and enjoying a glass of the different wines protected by the Jumilla PDO, white, rosé and red, and has been created again by Manuel Sagredo, an artist who has become a great collaborator of the Jumilla PDO, interested in promoting and encouraging creativity and making known the culture of Hellín through his works.

The participating wineries and other details about this fair, which has become a must-see event at the Hellín Fair, will be announced on the social media channels of the Jumilla PDO @vinosjumilla.

About the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin

The Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin has a winemaking tradition that dates back to 3000 BC, thanks to the remains of Vitis vinifera and utensils related to winemaking found in the municipality of Jumilla, considered among the oldest in Europe.

Its territory comprises the Murcian municipality of Jumilla and six municipalities in the southeast of the province of Albacete: Hellín, Montealegre del Castillo, Fuente Álamo, Ontur, Albatana and Tobarra.

The appellation encompasses over 20,000 hectares of vineyards, mostly dry-farmed and trained in the traditional bush vine system on limestone soils. More than 12% of these are old vines, dominated by the Monastrell variety, with a significant number of ungrafted vines.

The scarce rainfall, the more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and the characteristics of its soils make the Jumilla PDO a territory especially favorable for organic viticulture, which is now the majority in the designation.
