Gault&Millau launches its first guide to Morocco
The inaugural edition awards 135 restaurants and crowns Fayçal Bettioui as Chef of the Year, marking a milestone for Morocco's culinary industry.
Gault&Millau presented the first Moroccan edition of its prestigious gastronomic guide during a gala held at the Waldorf Astoria Rabat-Salé hotel. This launch marks the guide's official entry into the Moroccan market and celebrates the country's growing culinary excellence.
The event brought together chefs, hoteliers, artisans, and other industry professionals at the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat. Guests also attended the inaugural Gault&Millau Morocco Awards, which recognized leading figures in the country's hospitality and restaurant sectors.
Industry leaders receive the highest honors.
Fayçal Bettioui received the Chef of the Year award, while Mehdi Tobrouki was named Pastry Chef of the Year. Additionally, Imad Yazidi was named Sommelier of the Year and Hanane Bouriqui was recognized as Young Talent of the Year.
Alongside the awards, Gault&Millau presented its first Moroccan guide, featuring 135 selected restaurants and highlighting the country's 20 best culinary destinations. The publication aims to showcase Morocco's culinary diversity and promote excellence across the sector.
Morocco joins the international network of Gault&Millau.
Patrick Hayoun, president and CEO of Gault&Millau France and International, described the launch as a historic milestone for the organization. He emphasized that Morocco has officially joined the guide's international network, which has been promoting culinary excellence worldwide for more than five decades.
Steve Berdah, president of Gault&Millau Morocco, stated that the launch reflects the country's rich culinary heritage, hospitality, and cultural diversity. He added that the guide will bring greater rigor and recognition to the Moroccan gastronomic sector, while also fostering its continued development.
This launch reinforces Morocco's growing position on the international culinary scene and provides restaurants and hospitality professionals with a globally recognized benchmark for quality and innovation.
