The taste of home: championing locally iconic beers

Beer has always been about more than just the liquid – it’s about where you are and who you’re with. Across Australia is a range of iconic beers that have become part of the fabric of their communities, earning a loyal following that goes well beyond what’s on tap.

These are the beers that have been around for generations, tied to big celebrations and everyday moments, backing local communities and showing up for their people and venues alike. Over time, they’ve become intrinsically linked to their place. It’s hard not to think of XXXX without Queensland or Swan Draught without Western Australia. Craft favourites take that even further, with brands like Stone & Wood synonymous with Byron Bay, and Little Creatures an authentic symbol of Fremantle.

It’s no surprise that local icons like these tend to perform strongest on home turf, often outpacing other brands and even their own results in different parts of the country.

LION is proud to be a custodian of locally iconic beers all over Australia, championing their connection to place and supporting it through strong partnerships in local venues, as well as their brand homes.

Little Creatures is a great example of that connection in action. Little Creatures recently opened the doors to its stunning new Fremantle venue after a $10 million transformation, marking an exciting new chapter for the brewery, which has been at the heart of Australia’s craft beer revolution. The refreshed home venue honours the brand’s heritage while creating an inviting new space to enjoy some of the best views, beers and hospitality in Western Australia.

Located next door to the original Brewhouse on Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour, the new two-level venue features multiple dining and drinking zones that combine all the things that visitors loved about the old venue with innovative new concepts. It continues the Little Creatures tradition of bringing people together over exceptional craft beer in one of Australia’s most iconic brewing destinations.
