A favorite with food lovers of all ages, the burger is a regular feature on our plates. To treat yourself (or someone else), it comes in endless variations depending on the season and your cravings. Vegetarian, chicken, or beef, the burger can also be made with pork.

Ingredients · Servings 4 people
  • 1 kg of pork shoulder or a loin roast
  • 1 tablespoon of trapper's spice mix
  • 200 ml of ketchup
  • 200 ml of barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 large gherkins
  • 1 red onion
  • 4 handfuls of rocket
  • 8 cheddar slices
Method · 4 h 15 min
  1. In a casserole dish (or failing that, a cooking dish), place the pork shoulder and season it generously with the trapper's mix.
  2. Add the other marinade ingredients, namely ketchup, barbecue sauce and maple syrup.
  3. Cover and bake in an oven at 150°C for approximately 4 hours.
  4. Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks, mixing the meat with the sauce.
  5. While cooking, slice the onion into thin strips with a vegetable slicer.
  6. Using a paring knife, slice the gherkins.
  7. Cut the burger buns in half if necessary.
  8. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each bun (the bottom half).
  9. Place under the oven grill for a few seconds to melt the cheese.
  10. Spread the pulled pork on the bottom bun, over the cheddar cheese.
  11. Add the sliced pickles, red onion and rocket.
  12. Close the burgers with the top halves of the burger buns.
  13. Pulled pork burgers should be served immediately.
  14. They can be served with homemade fries, baked potatoes, coleslaw, grilled vegetables or a salad.
  15. Enjoy your food!

The steps of the recipe

  • Cover and cook in a 150°C oven for about 4 hours. The meat should be tender enough to shred with a fork. If not, return it to the oven for a few more minutes.
  • Add the sliced pickles, red onion, and arugula. You can also add a sauce of your choice, such as ketchup.
  • Enjoy your meal! If you have any pulled pork left over, you should know that it freezes very well in an airtight container!
