The new Michelin Guide Toronto & Region was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, a cultural venue that brought together the most prominent culinary creators and entrepreneurs from the metropolis and the province of Ontario. The event, presented in a dynamic and informal format, began with the unveiling of the special awards.
The Special Awards of the Michelin Guide Toronto 2026
As is now tradition, the ceremony served to recognize the work of professionals who contribute to the culinary experience of Toronto and its surrounding areas, not only in the kitchen. This year's award winners stood out for their blend of youth and experience.
Thus, the Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award went to Sharon Chan of 156 ONEFIVESIX for a cocktail menu that incorporates references and ingredients from Korean culture. Likewise, the Michelin Sommelier Award recognized Toni Weber of Restaurant 20 Victoria for his work in wine pairing and selection.
Eric Roell of LORE received the Michelin Outstanding Service Award, while Andrew Golden of Golden Horseshoe Barbecue was honored with the Michelin Young Chef Award. At just 25 years old, the young Torontonian has made a name for himself on the local scene thanks to his Texas-style barbecue, a technique with which he seeks to offer Canadians the most authentic version of this classic dish.
Bib Gourmand: eat delicious food and have an amazing time
One of the main announcements of this edition was the addition of five new restaurants to the Bib Gourmand category, one of the favorites of both the public and the gastronomic community, which recognizes establishments that offer quality cuisine at affordable prices.
The new additions are Antalya, Golden Horseshoe Barbecue, Les Incompetents, RPM Bakehouse, and The Lunch Lady of Saigon. From the barbecue of the aforementioned chef Golden to Latin American avant-garde and Vietnamese cuisine, this year's selection showcases the vast array of flavors Toronto has to offer. These are joined by 11 restaurants that have entered the guide for the first time as Recommended restaurants.
These are the stars in the Michelin Guide Toronto 2026
Of course, the most anticipated moment of the evening was saved for last: the unveiling of the Michelin-starred restaurants in Toronto and the surrounding area. This year, the guide retains 15 distinguished establishments, among which Restaurant Pearl Morissette stands out, retaining its two stars.
Located in the Niagara region, just over an hour from Toronto, this restaurant run by chefs Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson uses excellent produce from their own 16-hectare farm.
Mexico makes a strong impression in Toronto
Mexican cuisine not only holds a prominent place within its own borders, but is also increasingly attracting attention abroad. This edition of the guide demonstrates this with the inclusion of concepts and chefs born in Mexico. A prime example is Quetzal, which retains its Michelin Star with a menu that puts corn, nixtamalization, and fire at the heart of its dishes, while Campechano and Puerto Bravo maintain their Bib Gourmand distinction.
As for the chefs, Rafael Covarrubias, originally from Querétaro and now based in Toronto, stands out. With only eight months at the helm of Restaurant 20 Victoria, Rafa (as he's known in the culinary community) has managed to earn his establishment a Michelin star in 2026 thanks to his unique blend of heritage and modernity.
Finally, Aldo Camarena Jiménez joins the list of Mexicans succeeding in Canada. He and his wife, Ashley McKay, run Antalya. This restaurant earned the Mindful Voices award (successor to the Green Stars) thanks to its close collaboration with local and Indigenous producers.
