Enoturismo intelligente: quality over quantity

In the world of wine tourism, one of the most recurring questions is: “How can we increase visitor numbers?”

But are you really sure that your primary goal should be to attract more people? Or perhaps it's better to first extract the maximum potential from current visitors?

We recently conducted a consultation for a winery that asked us for help attracting more visitors. However, analyzing the numbers and operational details, we realized the problem was deeper. More than a problem, it was a lack of adequate work on what already existed. Before considering expansion—which means increasing costs, staff, time, etc.—it's crucial to ask yourself: Am I getting the most out of those who already come?

Optimize current resources

Here are some key questions every winery should ask itself:

  • Email Tracking: Can I track all the contact details of people who visit my business, not just those who made the reservation?
  • Customer value: Am I satisfied with the average receipt, or could I make small changes to increase it?
  • Reviews: Do I ask visitors to leave reviews?
  • Word of mouth: Do I encourage them to tell other people about their experience?
  • Company Values: Do I make sure they fully understand my company's values and are satisfied?
  • Up-Selling and Cross-Selling: Have I considered up-selling or cross-selling opportunities, such as an extra glass, a paid gift, or an incentive with a special promotion?

Quality over quantity

We often focus on what we don't have, neglecting to optimize everything we already have. A winery doesn't need a lot of visitors to generate revenue; it needs the right number of people to leave their mark and be managed like rare gems. The risk is that we become tourism machines, neglecting the important things that, in the long run, make the difference in the business plan.

Rethinking your approach to wine tourism can yield significant benefits. Before investing resources to attract new visitors, make sure you're getting the most out of those who already visit your winery. This way, you'll not only improve your operational efficiency, but also create a more rewarding and memorable experience for your guests, who, in turn, will be your best ambassadors.

Optimizing your current visitor base can be the key to sustainable and long-lasting success in the wine tourism industry.
