Here comes a snack with a touch of luxury

Sometimes, an afternoon or a cozy evening calls for a little treat. If you glance around the pantry and neither chocolate nor salty snacks seem to offer the right answer, it's time for a homemade snack.

Ingredients · Servings 12
  • 12 large dates
  • 150 g cream cheese
  • 1 TL Vanilleextrakt 🛒
  • 2 The Honey
  • 30 g pistachios
Method · 15 min
  1. Cut the dates lengthwise and remove the pits if necessary. Gently press them apart to create a small indentation.
  2. Put cream cheese, vanilla extract and 1 tbsp honey into a bowl and mix until smooth.
  3. Roughly chop the pistachios with a knife.
  4. Fill the prepared dates with the cream.
  5. Sprinkle the stuffed dates with the chopped pistachios.
  6. Finally, drizzle the dates with another tablespoon of honey.

Stuffed dates with honey and pistachios: These will be remembered.

The secret to this snack lies in the interplay of different textures and flavors. The base is made of soft dates, which naturally possess an intense, almost caramel-like sweetness. Large, meaty varieties like Medjool dates are particularly well-suited, as they can be easily slit lengthwise, pitted, and filled. Inside, a creamy component provides a gentle contrast to the sticky fruit. Whether you choose a mild cream cheese, creamy ricotta, or velvety mascarpone is entirely up to your personal taste. The filling absorbs the sweetness of the date and balances it beautifully.

The pistachios provide the decisive crunch. If you briefly toast them in a dry pan before using them, their nutty aroma intensifies dramatically. After cooling, roughly chop them and sprinkle them generously over the stuffed dates. They not only add a vibrant green color but also provide the perfect crunchy contrast to the soft fruit and smooth cream. A delicate drizzle of runny honey completes the dish. It binds the nutty and creamy elements together and gives the snack a beautiful sheen. If desired, sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt on top to further enhance the sweet flavors.

Besides its excellent taste, this little treat scores points above all for its quick preparation. You don't need any special kitchen equipment or much time. The fruit is prepared quickly, the cream is stirred smooth in no time, and filling the dates is a breeze. This makes them the perfect choice when unexpected guests arrive or you simply crave something special after a long day. Within minutes, you have a snack on the table that looks like fine chocolates and is much more impressive than an open bag of chips.

Stuffed dates are also incredibly useful when planning a larger meal with friends. They work wonderfully as a simple appetizer, satisfying initial hunger without being too filling. On a buffet, they blend seamlessly between savory and sweet dishes. They offer a welcome change from classic cheese platters or antipasti and surprise your guests with their elegant combination of sweet, creamy, and nutty flavors. It's best to prepare a few extra, as these little bites are always the first to disappear.
