The Podenhaus in the center of Bad Aussee has a turbulent history. It was once the residence of the Hallingers, who became wealthy through the salt trade; later, the Poden family took it over and ran a colonial goods business until 1880; for decades it stood empty until the Paradeiser family saved it from ruin.
With sensitivity and a keen eye for detail, the listed building was renovated in keeping with its original style, preserving architectural treasures such as wooden floorboards and beams, dormer windows, hidden niches, and winding staircases. None of the eleven rooms and three apartments are alike; many pieces of furniture and antiques that had stood in the house for decades were lovingly restored and, combined with modern design elements, comfortable box-spring beds, and minimalist accessories, create a relaxed atmosphere.
The larger apartments also have a fully equipped kitchen. The spacious rooms of the main floor are available to all guests; here they can gather for a glass of wine, cook together, dine at the long table, or relax in the cozy lounge with soft jazz music. The bar is always well-stocked, and payment is based on the honor system.
