Sesame fritter recipe

Sesame fritters are a unique way to enjoy a crispy, golden treat with a subtle nutty flavor.

Ingredients · Servings 2
  • 1 taza de harina de trigo todo uso (125 g)
  • 3 cdas de semillas de sésamo (25 g)
  • 1 huevo
  • 3 cdas de leche (45 ml)
  • 3 cdas de azúcar (25 g)
  • 1 cda de mantequilla derretida (15 g)
  • 1 cdita de polvo de hornear (4 g)
  • 1/2 cdita de esencia de vainilla
  • 1 pizca de sal
  • Aceite vegetal suficiente para freír
Method · 30 min

To make these sesame fritters you will need wheat flour, sesame seeds, an egg, milk, sugar, butter, baking powder, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. The mixture is fried in small batches until golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside.

How to make sesame fritters at home, step by step

  • 2 people
  • 520 Kcal
  • 1 cup all-purpose wheat flour (125 g)
  • 3 tbsp of sesame seeds (25 g)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp of milk (45 ml)
  • 3 tbsp of sugar (25 g)
  • 1 tbsp of melted butter (15 g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder (4 g)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Enough vegetable oil for frying
  • Place the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Mix well to distribute the dry ingredients.
  • Add the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix with a spoon until you have a smooth batter.
  • Add the sesame seeds and knead lightly until they are evenly distributed.
  • Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. If it's too sticky, add a small amount of flour; if it's dry, stir in a few drops of milk.
  • Form small balls of dough, making sure they are of a similar size so that they cook evenly.
  • Heat plenty of oil in a deep pot or pan over medium heat. The oil should be hot, but not smoking.
  • Fry the fritters in small batches, leaving space between them. Cook them for 3 to 5 minutes, turning them so they brown evenly on all sides.
  • Remove them with a slotted spoon when they are golden brown and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
  • Let them rest for a few minutes before serving. You can enjoy them on their own or with honey, melted chocolate, or a slightly sweet yogurt sauce.

Tips for making irresistible sesame fritters

  • Don't add too much flour. An overly dry dough will produce hard fritters.
  • Use fresh sesame seeds for a more aromatic and pleasant flavor.
  • You can lightly toast the sesame seeds before adding them to the dough to intensify their flavor, but let them cool before using them.
  • Make sure all the fritters are a similar size to prevent some from burning while others remain raw.
  • Don't overheat the oil. If it's too hot, the fritters will brown quickly on the outside and remain undercooked in the center.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Kneading it excessively can develop the gluten and result in a firmer texture.
  • If you want a spicier flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon or cardamom to the mixture.
  • Serve them preferably hot or warm, when their exterior is still crispy.

Can sesame fritters be made without eggs?

Yes. You can substitute the egg with approximately 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt or use a mixture of water and cornstarch to help bind the batter. The texture may vary slightly.

Can black sesame seeds be used to make fritters?

Yes. Black sesame works very well and provides a slightly more intense flavor and an attractive visual contrast. You can also combine white and black sesame.

Why are the fritters raw inside?

This usually happens because the oil is too hot or the pieces are too large. Fry them over medium heat in small batches so the heat reaches the center.

Can sesame fritters be reheated?

Yes. You can heat them for a few minutes in the oven or air fryer to restore some of their crispiness. Avoid overheating them so they don't dry out.
