M&S lowers prices of over 50 organic products
Marks & Spencer (M&S) is investing over £4 million to lower the prices of more than fifty organic products. The British retailer aims to give more consumers access to organic products and encourage existing organic customers to buy them more often.
The price reduction applies to organic carrots, potatoes, milk, eggs, pasta, and other organic fruit and vegetable products, among others. According to M&S, prices start at 70 pence for organic garlic and 90 pence for organic carrots. The organic products are certified according to the organic standards of the Soil Association.
A third occasionally buys organic. M&S's own research shows that approximately one-third of customers buy organic products from time to time. With lower prices, the retailer aims to attract new customers to the category and encourage existing customers to buy organic products more frequently. Additionally, M&S states it intends to offer organic products from different temperature zones in one place in larger, renovated stores.
Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food, calls organic a category with great potential. "That is why we are investing more than £4 million to lower the prices of more than 50 organic staple products, combining the trusted M&S quality and certified organic origin with a good price."
Encouraging more organic choices The British price campaign is also attracting attention in the Netherlands. Market strategist Elise Bijkerk writes on LinkedIn that M&S's move is relevant to the Dutch development of organic products. According to her, in addition to attracting new organic buyers, there is also an opportunity to encourage consumers who already occasionally buy organic to choose organic products more often. In this regard, she names price and accessibility as key considerations.
M&S reports that the British organic market grew by 4.4 percent in the year through May 2026, according to Worldpanel. The retailer aims to double its share of that market.
