With a contemporary Milanese aesthetic, the new Italian market next to Paulista Avenue surprises with 1,300 products and nearly 1,000 wine labels

Anyone who’s been to Mata Città knows that the restaurant spares no expense on its decor to transport visitors to Italy. Now, part of that experience can also come to your home.

Mercato Mata Città has just opened, just a few steps from Paulista Avenue. The new space features more than 1,300 products, ranging from pasta and chocolate to coffee, spices, and naturally leavened breads.

But one figure stands out even more: the wine cellar houses nearly 1,000 wine labels. And despite its Italian inspiration, there’s plenty of Brazil on the shelves. After all, 80% of the portfolio consists of Brazilian wines, with a focus on small producers.

Mercato Mata Città: From Italy to the Pantries of São Paulo Residents

The new market occupies 160 m² within the Mata São Paulo complex. As a result, it serves as an extension of the experience created at the restaurant.

In total, there are 18 in-house brands and about 180 exclusive products. The plan is to expand this number to approximately 300 signature items by the end of the year.

Among the offerings are Casa Cacau by Mata chocolates, made with Brazilian cacao and hand-wrapped. There are also butter cookies featuring designs inspired by the complex.

Those who prefer savory snacks will find Italian-inspired extruded pasta produced in Brazil. In addition, there are naturally leavened breads baked daily.

The list of house-brand products continues with ketchups from the Tempo line and Pop Spice seasonings. Rounding out the selection are MATA botanical teas and various coffees, including a version inspired by the Neapolitan style.

However, it is the wine cellar that takes center stage. There are nearly 1,000 labels, including domestic, international, natural, and organic wines.

The aesthetic also takes us on a journey to Italy, but leaves behind the restaurant’s cinematic vibe. This time, the inspiration comes from a more urban and contemporary Milan.

Thus, exposed brick walls coexist with Carrara marble, stainless steel, and natural wood. On the ceiling, cloud-shaped light sculptures complete the space.

The tip here is that your visit shouldn’t just be a quick shopping trip. Mercato invites visitors to wander around, discover new products, and—who knows—leave with ingredients to bring a little bit of the experience home.

Mercato Mata Città is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Alameda Rio Claro 260, right near Paulista Avenue.
