Food Lion to open six stores in Carolinas, Georgia by year's end
Food Lion plans to open six grocery stores across the Carolinas and Georgia before the end of 2026, adding to four locations the company opened earlier this year, the grocer announced Tuesday.

The expansion will bring new stores to Summerfield, N.C., on Sept. 23; Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 7; and Lavonia, Ga., on Oct. 14. Three additional South Carolina locations in Greenville, Hilton Head and Wren are scheduled to open in October, November and December, respectively.
The retailer operates stores in 10 states.
“Each new store is designed to meet our customers' evolving needs,” said Greg Finchum, president of Food Lion. “The growth we're experiencing in 2026 creates strong momentum for next year and beyond.”
The stores will offer online ordering through the Food Lion To Go website and mobile app, with pickup and delivery options. Customers can also order through Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
Each location will feature self-checkout lanes alongside traditional cashier-assisted checkout. The stores will stock fresh produce, meats, prepared meals and organic, gluten-free and plant-based products.
Food Lion’s Nature’s Promise brand of natural and organic products will be available throughout the stores. The company’s Local Goodness program will feature products from regional suppliers in the Carolinas and Georgia.
The retailer will partner with local food banks and community organizations at each location. Through its Food Lion Feeds program, the company has donated more than 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and aims to donate 3 billion meals by 2032.
