  • The $3.99 dessert features churro ice cream inside a waffle cone shell with puffed rice and a dark chocolate-flavored coating.
  • I got an early taste, and the churro ice cream completely stole the show.

Taco Bell has given us plenty of reasons to stop by for dessert over the years, but its latest drop might be one of its best yet. The Tex-Mex chain has teamed up with Salt & Straw for the second year in a row, this time to launch the new Salt & Straw Churro Ice Cream Taco. While not directly related to the Good Humor-Breyers Choco Taco, aka the discontinued ice cream resembling a taco, we can’t help but notice the visual similarity.

The $3.99 dessert officially hit Taco Bell restaurants nationwide on September 1 and is available for a limited time while supplies last. After trying this new iconic menu item, I have just one request: Salt & Straw, please put this ice cream in a pint.

The collaboration follows last year's Tacolate, an ice cream taco from the two brands that was initially only available at select Salt & Straw scoop shops. According to Taco Bell, the dessert sold out during its launch weekend and drew lines of customers hoping to get their hands on one.

This time, thankfully, you won't have to hunt down a Salt & Straw location to try it. This new version starts with a crispy waffle cone shell filled with Salt & Straw's brand-new Churro Ice Cream.

The whole thing is finished with puffed rice and a dark chocolate-flavored coating. Think of the ice cream tacos you probably ate as a kid, but with a very Taco Bell upgrade.

I was able to try the Churro Ice Cream Taco ahead of its nationwide launch, and it's genuinely delicious. The churro ice cream was easily my favorite part.

It has enough cinnamon-forward churro flavor to make it interesting without overpowering everything else, and it's so good that I immediately wished Salt & Straw sold it separately by the pint. (Seriously, I'm asking.) As much as the ice cream stole the show for me, there's not actually a single weak link in this dessert.

The waffle shell gives it that familiar ice cream taco crunch, the puffed rice adds even more texture, and the chocolate-flavored coating ties everything together. Every component works exactly how you want it to, giving you creamy, crispy, crunchy, chocolaty, and cinnamony goodness all in the same bite.

Considering last year's version sold out during its launch weekend, though, I wouldn't necessarily wait to hit up your local TB. The partnership also includes a second new item, though it's much harder to get your hands on.

The Salt & Straw Choco-Waffle Chiller is available exclusively at Live Más Café locations in California, Las Vegas, Houston, and Dallas. Starting at $4.69, the frozen drink combines a vanilla ice cream base with churro crumbles and waffle cone pieces, then adds whipped cream, more waffle cone pieces, and a crackable chocolaty shell.

And Salt & Straw, my pint request still stands.
