We found a great pinwheel for 69 CZK and a Turkish delight for 35 CZK. The Lucie Confectionery in Žižkov is betting on the old days
A visit to a pastry shop can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the day. A lot depends on which one you choose and which of the desserts you try. I went to the Lucie Pastry Shop in Žižkov, which is said to make great pinwheels. Is there any truth to that?
You can find everything in Žižkov
Prague's Žižkov still retains some of its typical features. For example, it is the district where you can find perhaps the most bars, pubs and restaurants in a very small space. In addition, there are also still classic small shops and even places where you can mentally go back in history. Among them is certainly Cukrárna Lucie, located at the bottom of Hartigova Street, formerly known as Koněvova. Since the legend is spreading that this is the place where you can get the best windmills not only in Žižkov, I went to find out how things really are.

Wide range of classics and new releases
An inconspicuous pastry shop that you might not even notice if you weren't specifically looking for it, it focuses on traditional desserts. The menu includes classics such as casket for 32 CZK, punch slice for 38 CZK, coconut for 46 CZK or wreath for 48 CZK. These desserts fit perfectly into the atmosphere here. In a place where older ladies go for a coffee, have something sweet and chat about where they currently have the cheapest bed linen, you can hardly choose a better snack.
However, if you're in the mood for something more modern, Lucie's also has tiramisu, carrot cake or eggs with mango passion fruit flavour for 62 CZK. And since coffee is an integral part of desserts, they've also played around with its offer at the Žižkov pastry shop. You can easily get a classic Turkish coffee for 35 CZK, a Viennese coffee with whipped cream for 58 CZK or an Algerian coffee with egg liqueur for 85 CZK. If you like lattes, for example, prepare 65 CZK.

How does it actually taste?
The most famous one here is, however, the windmill, which you can buy for 69 crowns. For this great price you get a decent portion of sweet goodness that is not ripped off in any way. The batter is prepared precisely and the creams inside you would want to eat every day. For a price that you won't find just anywhere, you get a dessert that you will be happy to come back for.
I had a bit of mixed feelings about the Indian for 39 CZK. Since I'm not a big fan of it, I didn't enjoy it very much. It was too sweet for my taste and the sponge cake, which wasn't the best, didn't help either. However, I assume that lovers of this classic will appreciate its taste more than I did. I would definitely skip this piece on my next visit. As for the coffee, I tried the latte and it tasted very good. Both the quality of the coffee and the whipped milk were exactly what you would expect to get.

Final verdict
If you like nostalgia, which is not artificially induced, but authentic, and at the same time you like to enjoy classic desserts, Cukrárna Lucie is the ideal place for you. Although it doesn't look like a big beauty from the outside, inside it makes up for it with a pleasant atmosphere, but above all with quality products, friendly service and the feeling that you are not even sitting in a restaurant almost in the center of Prague. So if you are moving around the lower part of Hartigova Street, definitely stop by the local windmill.
