Baked Plum Jam: The Easy, Stress-Free Recipe

Baked jam is an easy and delicious fruit preserve, cooked directly in the oven rather than on the traditional stovetop.

Ingredients · Servings 2 jars of 500 gr
  • Plums, 2 kg
  • Granulated sugar, 330 g
  • Cinnamon powder, 1 teaspoon
Method · 1 h 45 min
  1. To prepare the baked jam, first wash the plums, then dry them, cut them into segments and remove the stones (1).
  2. Arrange the fruit on a baking tray (2).
  3. Sprinkle with granulated sugar (3).
  4. Flavour, to taste, with cinnamon powder (4).
  5. Mix everything well with a spoon (5).
  6. Place in a hot oven at 200°C and leave to cook for approximately 90 minutes (6).
  7. Once the time has passed, take the jam out of the oven and blend it with an immersion blender (7).
  8. Once you have obtained a creamy and smooth jam (8), transfer it while still boiling into sterilised glass jars, close hermetically with the lid and leave to cool.
  9. The baked jam is ready to be enjoyed (9).
  10. If you want to extend the life of the jam, place the jars in a pan full of water, wrapped in a tea towel to prevent them from breaking (10), and leave them to simmer on the stove for at least half an hour. Once done, leave them to cool immersed in the liquid, then drain them, dry them and store them in the pantry.

This is a simple and stress-free way to make homemade jams and preserves. Simply spread the fruit—in our case, plums—on a baking sheet along with granulated sugar and cinnamon, then bake in a hot oven for about an hour and a half, without stirring constantly. This way, the heat of the oven will evaporate the water in the fruit, resulting in a thick, creamy compote.

Once ready, you can choose whether to leave the fruit in chunks, for a more rustic consistency, or blend the jam with an immersion blender to obtain a smooth and velvety puree perfect for spreading on biscuits and toast.

Our Melissa procured some ripe, sugary plums, but depending on availability and personal preference, you can opt for peaches, plums, cherries, or other seasonal fruit.

If you want to extend the shelf life of your jam, place the jars in a pot filled with water, wrapped in a cloth to prevent them from breaking, and let them simmer for at least half an hour. Once simmering, let them cool in the liquid, then drain, dry, and store them in the pantry.
